Study Materials and Study Tips for AE Ground Water PSC Exam
According to the syllabus mentioned, it can be divided into the technical and non-technical part. 80 marks will be from the technical part and 20 marks will be from the non-technical part. According to the recent Mechanical Engineering examinations conducted by Kerala PSC, if you want to get into the final rank list and get selected in for just 4 vacancies, you have to get at least 75 marks out of 100 and 80+ marks to be in the safe zone. This can be possible if you utilize your time and prepare accordingly.
For technical part, you have to go through the entire curriculum of your Mechanical engineering course. Among the subjects, if you prioritize, Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Fluid Machinery, Production & Manufacturing Engineering, SOM and TOM should be in priority list number 1. Machine Design, Engineering Mechanics, RAC, HMT can be on the second priority list. Give the least importance to Industrial Management part. This is the general trend of questions which is followed by Kerala PSC in recent Mechanical Engineering Examinations. The best books available for Mechanical Engineering competitive exam is given in this link - Recommended Books for Mechanical Engineering>>. You are also recommended to do the previous year question papers which are given in this link - Previous Question Papers>>.
Note that qualifications prescribed for the post also include Mining and Agricultural engineering so you can expect some portion of the questions from that part also. It could be related to excavation, pipeline engineering, mining etc. Things will be more explicit when Kerala PSC updates the detailed syllabus of the exam (if updated in future though). If you score 65+ in this paper or 65-70, then you are safe (provided the examination is an easy paper). If you feel like it is a tough paper and it included many agricultural and mining engineering concepts, then the cut-off may go down.
Now comes the non-technical part which is as important as the technical part. Most of the aspirants used to take a light consideration in this part which is not a good idea. As the vacancy is just 4 and you have a quality pool of students to compete with, this is the area you can score more and which is ultimately responsible for the top 4 rankers. You have to score minimum 13 to 15 marks in this topic.
The syllabus here includes General Knowledge which includes basic facts about India and Kerala which mainly includes geography, history and social welfare programs. Give prime importance to Indian History during 1857 to 1947 which includes the Indian National Movement.
Renaissance in Kerala is another important part which you can get 6 to 7 questions out of 20. Focus mainly on leaders of Renaissance in Kerala. For the last two PSC Mechanical Engineering exams, those who have gone through our eBook on Kerala Renaissance scored full marks in this topic. This eBook is based on past 2 year Kerala PSC question papers. If you are interested you can have a try (link provided below). Those who already bought this eBook can revise it properly and give more focus to chapter 7 (Leaders of Renaissance in Kerala).
