Women & Social Change - Kerala PSC Study Materials - Renaissance in Kerala

This article provides you Kerala PSC exam oriented short notes & study material regarding women & social change which is part of the renaissance in Kerala. This blog discusses some of the major women leaders such as Parvathi Nenmenimangalam, Arya Pallam, A V Kuttimalu Amma, Lalitha Prabhu, Akkamma Cheriyan, Anna Chandi, Lalithambika Antharjanam etc. In the field of social reform movements, the influence of women was normally ignored in the old days. When Kerala renaissance has been included initially in the PSC examinations, it didn't give much focus on women. But nowadays, this mistake is being corrected."The importance of women in the renaissance in Kerala" has been now introduced in the Kerala PSC examination syllabus as a separate topic to study. The life history of those women who contributed to the Kerala renaissance is a brief topic to study in almost all PSC exams. They are discussed as follows.

The contribution of women in the Kerala renaissance is too great to be ignored. There are a lot of women who fought bravely on the front lines of Kerala renaissance against suppression from different classes. But the truth is, their significance had not been much brought out to light. Just as women are confined to narrow walls of the household, the contributions and achievements of these women are being left out in the great history of a struggle for reformation. But as of today, highlighting the importance of women in the Kerala renaissance in the syllabus of competitive PSC exams is a good sign. It has become a matter of great interest that their history must be strictly studied for such examinations. The incidents of upper cloth revolt, which took place two hundred years ago, marked the first advancement of women movement in Kerala. Women participation was also very active in Paliyam, Vaikkom & Guruvayur Satyagraha.
